What prompted you to get into mortgage lending?
In 2000, I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with degrees in both Marketing and Economics. I then worked for State Street Bank in Boston in Corporate Finance. After a few years there, I wasn’t satisfied. I grew up in a family of all entrepreneurs and have always had an industrious spirit. I liked the idea of learning about all these different neat programs and products, and being able to educate both clients and Realtor associates on them. The idea of being able to run my own business under the umbrella of another was a natural fit for me. I wanted to continue to utilize my skillsets (in mathematics, finance, research and analysis, marketing and communications, etc), but also wanted to impact lives directly. Assisting a family with the largest purchase of their life truly satisfies me.
How long have you been in the industry?
2018 will be my 15th year as a top producing home purchase lender in both the Rhode Island and Massachusetts marketplaces. I specialize in the following areas: First Time Home Buyers, Move-Up Buyers, Second Home Buyers, Relocation, Single Family, Condo, Multi-Family, Conventional, Conventional No Monthly PMI, Jumbo, FHA (Federal Housing Administration), VA (Veterans Affairs), USDA Rural Development, Rhode Island Housing, and Mass Housing.
What is the biggest piece of advice you would give today’s buyer as they prepare for the mortgage process?
Most importantly, a buyer needs to feel confident in his or her financing partner. Once committed to that financing partner, undivided attention is essential. I need it from my buyers and more importantly my buyers need it from me. So, whether meeting in person, or, over a conference call, I think it is crucial to set aside an ample amount of time for each discussion, without any distractions. What we are talking about is very important. Nothing good ever comes out of being hurried or distracted. When these principles are followed, ten out of ten times, from point of pre-approval through closing on the home of your dreams, everything should go very smoothly, and a buyer’s experience should be a pleasurable one.
What is most rewarding and what is most challenging about today’s market?
I find great satisfaction in working on difficult projects, and seeing those projects cross the finish line at the closing table. Some buyers have very complex situations. Many mortgage programs also have a lot of depth and complexity as well. Navigating through all of it to put something together that works for a buyer stimulates my mind.
Right now, we are living at a time where so many different generations are clashing. Clashing in a good way. I enjoy wearing different hats to communicate effectively with different people. It’s fresh and exciting every time I pick up the phone. There are also some challenges to this. But where’s the fun without the challenge, right?
What are your hobbies and passions outside of work?
I am an avid Boston Sports fan. I’m hoping for another Patriots Super Bowl victory in February of 2018! Larry Bird is my idol. His leadership, court vision and ability were uncanny. I love the ocean. Snorkeling and diving all over the world has been amazing. My wife Laura and I have a deep passion for world travel and exploring and seeing the beauty of this world firsthand. Observing different cultures and learning about history first hand is something special for us. Music has been a huge part of my life ever since I listened to my first Beatles record at the age of 6. I love all different types of music. I have played the guitar for about 25 years now. I also play the bass and the drums. Led Zeppelin embodies everything I love about music. I would say Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time. 🏈 🏀 ✈️ 🌊 🎸
