Top 5 Must Haves in Your Home
Whether it’s your first home or your fifth, everyone has a must have list for their new home. Recently, we asked our clients what was the one thing they just couldn’t live without. After tabulating their responses, here is our Top 5 Must Haves in a new home.
1. Extra Space
"I would say our favorite feature and one that is SO crucial to our living environment is having a finished basement! That second living space was a must for us!" Lynn C
Whether it was for the kids, the dog, or storage, extra square footage was by far the most popular response to our question. When buying a home there are many things to consider, but how much square footage you need to comfortably live should be top of mind. Do you have a large family? Do you entertain frequently? How much space can you afford? All are important considerations to factor in to your decision.
2. Open Floor Plan
"Kitchen space open to living area is great for entertaining." Jason B
Spend just 5 minutes watching HGTV and I would hazard a guess that you will hear the term "Open Concept" more than a couple times. In recent years, homeowners have been moving more towards open concept living. For those who love to entertain or for parents who need to keep an eye on the children an open concept is a must have.
3. Updated Kitchen
"For me what would be a nice, new, large kitchen area!" Jane Roy
It's not all that surprising that an updated kitchen also rated high on our list. It is no longer just a place for preparing and cooking food. The kitchen has become the hub of the home : A gathering spot for family meetings, a place to sit and pay bills, or do homework. No wonder why it's often said that the kitchen is the "heart of the home".
"Location!!!! We love our proximity to the highway and all the shopping of Warwick but we’re still far enough away from it all" Stephanie A
Location, Location, Location! We all know that its often one of the most important factor when buying a home, after all, you can update your home, but you can't move it. Location can affect school districts, commute times, access to amenities, and your overall quality of life. Choose Wisely!
"Best features of my house are the old style hardwood floors, trim, wainscoting, door frames, etc." Alan S
Not everyone is looking for a brand new home. Many people are seeking the charm and character that only an older home can provide. Built in cabinets, fireplaces, specialty trim and one of a kind details are often what catch a prospective buyers eye. They can be features that truly turn a house into a home.
